Cafe Duran takes security very seriously. Our web site uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to transmit your credit card number and other personal information from a secure web page to a secure application on our server. Our secure server digital certificate is issued by VeriSign, a recognized leader in Internet security services. Because SSL encryption slows down a web site, we only use it in the final stage of ordering after you choose to pay online by clicking the "Credit Card" button. It is then that you will see an unbroken key or locked padlock at the bottom of your browser window and https:// in the location/address window at the top of your browser. Both of these indicate that the page you are now on is secured using SSL encryption to communicate with our secure web server. When you place an order on our web site, we ask for your credit card number, which is encrypted and transferred to our secure server. We only keep your credit card number long enough to process a transaction, after which it is erased from our server's memory. We never store credit card numbers on our server or in any of our databases. We do store the last four digits of your card number as a reminder to you of which credit card you used for placing the order. Finally, our web site uses "cookies" to keep track of your order in the shopping cart. The cookie that our server requests to set on your machine is simply a 16-digit customer number used to identify you each time you add an item to your shopping cart, display your cart, or check out. The cookie our web site sets on your machine may also help us track from which affiliate web site you were referred, or to which promotional offers you are responding. The cookie is considerately programmed so that it will expire 7 days after your visit to our web site. Any items added to the cart but not purchased will still be visible in your shopping cart if you return within this 7 day period.
